Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
It was only by the age of 5 that my father — whom at the time had a “stache”, faithful to his rocker condition — sat me on the couch to watch the greatest event the world as ever witness.
I might recall Ferry and Gilmour´s charm, or Young´s monotony “one hit wonder”, but there is no explaining for what I felt during those fifteen captive minutes of a performance of the phoenix rising from the ashes. Four british fellows who made the performance of a lifetime, with the spotlight in one particular diva. “Daddy who is he? And why doesn´t his mic have a base like the other singers?” Wich my old man just answer “That is Freddie darling”. “Kind of magic” was the first record I ever hold in my tinny little hands and placed in the turning table. I found it funny not just for the loops in the songs but also cuz those four cartoons in the cover looked like yellow monkeys, that were later waved throw the sky as balloons during the wembley gig.
Today, as It could only be, we remembered and re-lived our story throw their history, feeling sweat, goosebumps and red teary eyes as we walked out of a sold out theater, to the glorious sound of “Show must go on”. Because that´s the way it is supposed to be. This movie isn´t a cry for help, it´s not just another marketing move to sell records, but a statement and an alert that this generation needs a wake up call. That teenagers need to get out of their cells and gadgets and get out there, because by doing something out of themselves is the only way to make a diference in this world. That we all have a little crazy in us and our egos when applied in a good way can get results.
The way how this generation is dead is alarming. The great challenge we face today is how we can get everyone to focus in one subject and make it great, just like the live aid. The last great event was the Sandy hurricane gig organized by sir Roger Waters back in 2011, but never got as big of an impact as the live aid, in fact no other continent bother to help. In this 21st century world, how do we get everyone together for something greater than ourselves? Isn´t that what music is supposed to do and stand for?
That´s the lesson to take from this moving picture.
